Contractor License Proof is a free tool for verifying any California contractor's state license. We surface the official public record, dated and sourced, so you can confirm a contractor is licensed before you hire — in seconds, without a phone call.
Where the data comes from
Every license fact on this site — status, classifications, the $25,000 contractor bond, and workers' compensation — comes from the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) public record. We don't alter it; we present it as it stands and link back to the official source on every profile. This site is not affiliated with the CSLB or the State of California.
Dated verification
A license can change status over time, so a verification is only as good as its date. Every profile shows “Verified against CSLB on [date]” and a link to the live CSLB record. We re-sync from the public record on a regular cadence, and each profile carries the date it was last checked — so you can see exactly how current each fact is, and confirm it yourself in one click.
The three badges
- Licensed
The contractor holds an active license in the CSLB public record. This is automatic and free — it appears on every qualifying profile, whether or not the business has ever heard of us.
- Verified
The business has claimed its listing and confirmed its details with us, on top of its active CSLB license.
- Featured
A verified business with premium placement in the directory.
What we don't do
We publish only accurate, dated facts from the CSLB public record. We do not publish pending or unadjudicated investigations, and we don't editorialize about a contractor's character. If you believe a record is wrong, use the “Report incorrect information” link on any profile — most corrections come down to a re-sync once the CSLB record updates.
